The Product Engineer Position

The Product Engineer is an impactful position that builds, evaluates, and delivers Novi’s data, modeling, and forecasting products. The role will be the subject matter expert as a member of the Product organization.  The role will work closely with Engineering, Data Science, Customers, Sales and Marketing. 

The Product Engineer will use Novi’s powerful software tools to productize highly-accurate forecasts and models as part of our data offering.  The individual will work with our teams to evaluate & improve existing datasets, and act as the voice of the customer in product management efforts. This role requires a very organized individual with strong attention to detail, great communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.



  • Use Novi software and tools to build inventories across the major shale plays, along with supporting forecasting models. 
  • Build & QA/QC Novi datasets, such as Novi Data Network and subsurface data. 
  • Update datasets, models & forecasting outputs on a regular cadence.
  • Build & update Novi embedded visualizations. 
  • Manage other initiatives requiring Novi in-house subject matter expertise for data or forecasting projects. 
  • Work with the data science team to evaluate research results.
  • With time, take on product management responsibilities, such as defining product requirements, interviewing customers, and collaborating with Novi software engineers on ongoing projects, always acting as the voice of the customer.
  • Contribute to marketing or sales initiatives by providing content, writing papers, or otherwise presenting results.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in unconventional Oil & Gas.
  • Familiarity with forecasting workflows and common data types.
  • Expert-level Spotfire user with dashboard development skills. 
  • Advanced proficiency in manipulating and joining large data files (e.g., combining public & proprietary datasets, summarizing & extracting relevant values from time-series production data).
  • Understanding of drilling, completions, production, and geology data types and file types.
  • Experience using Oil & Gas software (such as ARIES, Enersight, ArcGIS) and preparing data for ingestion in Oil & Gas applications.
  • Well organized and self-starting with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize and self-task accordingly.
  • Scripting/coding skills, Python expertise is a plus
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, ability to speak calmly, clearly, and confidently to customers.
  • Preference for Austin-based candidates but will consider others.
