The Product Manager Position

We seek an experienced and detail-oriented Product Manager to drive innovation in our oil and gas data products. This key role will spearhead research into oil and gas datasets, define product requirements, and identify areas for improvement across our data offerings and web-based analytics applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in well-level oil and gas datasets and extensive knowledge of public data sources, particularly state agencies.

This challenging position interfaces with multiple disciplines across the company, including software engineering, data science, customer success, sales, and marketing. We’re seeking an exceptionally organized individual who can align detailed requirements with broader company goals, effectively bridging the gap between technical specifics and strategic objectives.

  • Develop comprehensive product requirements and work plans for engineering teams, focusing on data collection, improvements, and front-end workflows.
  • Conduct in-depth research on diverse data sources to enhance existing datasets and identify new collection opportunities.
  • Map out key market segments, personas, and use cases. Working with software developers, define and design compelling workflows in Novi Insight Engine to streamline those workflows.
  • Serve as the ‘voice of the customer’ in planning and prioritization processes, leveraging a deep understanding of customer workflows.
  • Collaborate with the customer success team to analyze and prioritize trouble tickets.
  • Monitor dataset completeness and quality against established product specifications.
  • Create and execute release plans, including coordinating communications with customers, marketing, and sales teams.
  • Contribute technical content related to areas of responsibility, enhancing product documentation and marketing materials.
  • Present roadmap and technical content to customers and prospects.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the Oil & Gas industry, with at least 2 years focused on Lower 48 unconventionals
  • Proven experience working with oil and gas “public” datasets, including production, well header, completions, and directional surveys
  • Strong familiarity with common data-related workflows such as activity monitoring, acreage valuation, and supply forecasting
  • In-depth knowledge of common oil and gas data packages and software offerings
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, particularly Spotfire or Tableau
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and self-manage
  • Strong attention to detail and aptitude for deep, thorough research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Product management experience is a plus, but not required
  • Preference for Austin-based candidates; remote candidates will be considered
