The Reservoir Engineer Position

The Reservoir Engineer is an impactful position that touches all aspects of Novi’s business. Your work will support new and existing customers and interface with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Data Science. The Reservoir Engineer will report to the Head of Reservoir Technology.

A successful candidate will define and execute reservoir data analytics initiatives that drive customer satisfaction. You will work directly with customers to help them solve complex business problems while ensuring they get the most value from Novi’s software. This role requires a very organized individual with strong attention to detail, great communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with customers to build, troubleshoot, and refine machine learning models.  Models include customer and public drilling, completions, production, and subsurface data leveraging best-practice methodologies.
• Answer customer questions about product functionality, recommend optimized development planning workflows and use the Novi platform to evaluate industry trends.
• Validate model build results according to industry, Reservoir Engineering, and Novi Data Science best practices.
• Successfully manage multiple customer engagements and product projects simultaneously.
• Conduct product training sessions with customers on new or existing products as required.
• Conduct workshops with customer teams to showcase how Novi products can be leveraged for Reservoir Engineering applications.
• Identify opportunities for improvement to Novi products and communicate feedback to the product management team.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field.
• Minimum of 2 years as a Reservoir Engineer.  
• Oil & Gas data analytics, including experience with building analytical datasets and machine learning models.
• Advanced proficiency in manipulating and joining large data files (e.g., combining public & proprietary datasets, summarizing & extracting relevant values from time-series production data).
• Knowledge of third-party data source systems (such as Novi, IHS, DrillingInfo/Enverus, WoodMac, RSEG, etc.).
• Experience using common Oil & Gas software (such as Novi, Spotfire, ARIES, ArcGIS) and preparing data for ingestion in Oil & Gas applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build and deliver polished presentations.
• Well-organized and self-starting with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and self-task accordingly.
• Up to 25% travel for customer meetings & project kickoffs

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience as a Data Engineer.
• Experience using and navigating REST API.
• Experience with Python, SQL, R, and other common “big data” languages.
• Familiarity with “big data” best practices for ETL/ELT.
• Familiarity with the AWS Cloud Services.
• Located in Houston, Austin, Midland, DFW, Denver or other major O&G metroplexes.
