How to Use AOI Alerting in Novi Insights
Want to stay on top of activity in the areas that matter to you? In this episode of The Novi Drop, Hollee Baird, Data & Analytics Technical Advisor at Novi Labs, demonstrates how to use AOI Alerting in Novi Insights to monitor custom areas of interest. Learn how to set alerts using locations or shapefiles and track permits, rig and frac crew activity, completions, and first production, all in one stream.

Hi, everyone, and welcome back. Today, I'm going to be looking at the new AOI alerting in newbie insights. So the Western Haynesville is one of the fastest moving corners of the lower forty eight right now, and it's an area worth keeping track of. What I don't want to do is log in every morning and pan around the map to see what's changed. With the new AOI alerting in Novi Insights, I don't have to. I hand Novi my area of interest, and it tells me when something happens inside it. I'll build one from scratch, and then I'll show you what an alert I set up earlier has already caught. So there's a new alerts tab in the main navigation. And inside it, there's an alert configuration tab. I'll click on new AOI alert, this blue button here, which opens up a four step wizard. Step one is gonna be defining the area, and I don't necessarily need a shapefile to do it. I'll name the alert Western Haynesville activity, And I'm gonna check location rather than shapefile. Pick Texas, and I'm gonna stack up four counties that make up the Western Haynesville. Robertson, Leon, Freestone, and Limestone. So I can select between county, abstract, block, section, Texas. Press add location to add that specific land unit, and add every county or every area you're interested in one by one. And as you can see, each one previews on the map as I add it. Okay. So I've built my area of interest. And if you do have a boundary saved or a shapefile saved in Novi, your acreage perhaps, a unit outline, or a study area like the one I drew in my last video, you can appoint that alert to the shapefile instead by toggling on shapefile and then navigating to your appropriate shapefile, either loaded in or built in Novi itself. And with the shapefiles, you can also add a buffer, which will catch maybe a rig that shows up next door, not just inside that polygon. And you can combine both in one AOI. But if you don't have a shapefile, counties or townships are the right way to go. So I'll hit next, and step two is choosing what counts as news. And this list is, the whole life of a well up until that well starts producing. So permit submitted and permit approved, spud, rig arrival, rig departure, frac crew arrival, frac departure, completion, and first production. The rig and frac crew events are the ones I'd like to call out. That's activity you can't read from wild filings, and it's often your earliest physical signal that something's about to happen. And for an area like this one, I'm gonna leave everything checked and hit next to go to step three, which is alert delivery. In app notifications are always on, and email digests are coming soon. Step four shows me the whole configuration. Here, I can edit or go back. And when I'm ready to go, I'll hit save AOI alert, and nobody is on the watch. So I set this alert up earlier, so I'll exit out and go back to it. So there it is right there. Here in this alert configuration tab, you can pause the alert, which will just deactivate it so that you won't get any more notifications of events. You can view the events by clicking this alarm bell icon, edit it, or trash the AOI alert completely. Okay. So I set up a Western Haynesville alert a few months ago, and it has caught fifty events from seven operators. And all nine activity types are gonna show up. Let me pull up two. So we'll go to the beginning, and we're going to be looking at this Atomos Energy. We have a frac crew departure, and then pretty soon after the first production date for this well right here. I can click on that, and it will open up a new window showing me that well on the map as well as opening up the well card. So I can look at all of the well information, life cycle dates, as well as navigate to the state filing link. So every row is gonna have the well ID, the event date, the alert date, as well as the AOI name, activity, operator, basin, sub basin, state, and county. And you can filter all of these rows. So if you wanna just filter by operator to see what Adam Moss has been up to, so first production of frat crew, and then they're back with a rig arrival there in August. You can also type in your date range. So if I only wanted to look at the month of August, I could do that here so we can see what happened in August and who is operating. We'll go back to sorting by event date. So the earliest dates are at the top. Again, all those permit approved as well as some rig activity on the bottom by both Adam Moss, CommSoc, and Wildfire. I can also filter by the AOI. If I had more than one AOI just to see the alerts from a certain region, I can also firm... Permit by types. If I just want to be looking at a first production number, I'll clear out my filters here with the date. So only one first production well, and that's that Adamas well we looked at, and then I can search by events. Up at the top, we have two graphs. The first one is keeping track of the number of alerts and the last time frame of your choosing. So either in the last day, I've had zero today, in the last week, or the last month. It will also keep track of how many alerts were in the previous month and let you know the change there. And then over here, we have the alerts versus time. So it's showing the amount of alerts in a certain month. I can again change that by day, week, and I can choose to color by... It's gonna be alert type by default, and then I can hover over the bars to see exactly the counts in those bars. I can also color by operator to see who's really active in my area of interest, and it looks like Comstock is leading the charge in the western... This region of the western Haynesville. So that's it. Think about what this replaces. Checking the state site for new permits, scanning rig reports, panning around the map, hoping to notice a change. If you hold acreage or minerals, you find out when someone permits or spuds next to you. If you're tracking the competitor or an emerging play, you see the rigs and frat crews arrive without going looking. What this means for you is simple. The watching is now Novi's job, and your job starts when something actually happens. So that's AOI alerting. Define that area that matters either by using counties, a shapefile, or both. Tell Novi what counts as news, and let it watch. Permits, rig frac, completions, first production, all on one stream. Thanks for joining today.
